http://abcnews.go.com/Health/kidney-transplant-chain-sets-record/story?id=15752299 Vanessa Alcova is a vibrant, lovely 12 year-old girl whose life and the life of her family was changed forever when she was diagnosed with Pre B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. On December 28, 2013. Vanessa developed an infection in her left eye in conjunction with her leukemia diagnosis and is still working with ophthalmologists to regain sight in that eye. For girls, treatment for Vanessa's type of leukemia lasts almost three years. Vanessa's Mom, Diana, and her Dad, Mike, have both taken leave from work to care for her during these intense months of treatment while also caring for her 4 year-old little brother, Zachary. We are raising funds that will be given directly to Vanessa's family in this time of financial need so that they can continue to focus on her recovery. Pre B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia has a cure rate between 90 and 95%. Vanessa is currently in remission and with the excellent medical care she is receiving both from her doctors and at home, she is on her way to being cured. This road will be long for her family so please consider donating as you are able to assist the Alcova family. Vanessa is sweet and outgoing, loves girls stuff, singing, window-shopping with her mom, loving her little brother and hanging out with her friends. She has been an ASB representative for her grade, won a school spelling bee and a community essay contest. She is looking forward to September when this most intense phase of chemotherapy should be reduced and she might go back to school and see her friends. Thank you!
